Enjoy white flowers atop dark green foliage with Spathiphyllum (peace lily). Spathiphyllum looks great with any interior decor. A houseplant classic, Spathiphyllum (also commonly called peace lily) is a favorite plant for homeowners looking for an easy to grow plant. The plant is native to the south American jungles so moist, humid conditions inside your home are best. A great plant for homes and offices! And the perfect gift! Spathiphyllum, an easy to grow plant with a big personality, is ideal houseplant for any home, apartment, or office. Peace lily also makes a great housewarming gift. (everyone loves plants, especially ones that are so low maintenance!). House plants remove toxins from the indoor air: NASA's clean air study concluded that houseplants promote better air quality in your home. The study by NASA found that houseplants actively remove chemical pollutants from the air. All plants help purify the air by removing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. Here's a tip: NASA researchers recommend at least one houseplant for every 100 square feet to improve the air quality in your home. Care for your peace lily is easy: light: peace lily blooms best in high-light situations. It will tolerate low-light conditions well, but won't bloom much, if at all, so keep lighting in mind if the flowers or foliage is more important to you. Water: allow the top inch or so of the soil to dry between waterings. Peace lily needs more frequent watering in spring and summer than it does fall and winter. The frequency of watering will depend on your Spathiphyllum's pot size, how much light it gets, and the indoor temperature of your home. Water peace lily enough to keep the potting mix moist, but not wet or soggy. The plant will wilt dramatically when it gets too dry, but happily, its leaves pop back quickly after it gets moisture. Being a tropical plant, peace lily prefers high levels of humidity. If the leaf edges turn brown, supply more humidity by grouping it with more houseplants (which release moisture into the air as they breathe) or set it on tray of gravel and water so the pot sits on top of the gravel, above the water. Feeding: fertilize peace lily once or twice a year (every six months or so) at the minimum. You can fertilize your plant more frequently if you wish, especially if you want it to grow faster or bloom better. You can use any general-purpose fertilizer; peace lily isn't particular as to types or brands. Pruning/shaping: Spathiphyllum typically doesn't require pruning or shaping to keep its good looks. Repotting: repot your plant when it becomes root bound. (a houseplant is root bound when roots appear in the soil or begin to escape through drain holes in the pot bottom.) A well-draining potting soil mixture for is recommended when repotting. Never repot houseplants using soil from your yard. Outdoor options: in summer, the plant can be grown outdoors in a high light (but not full sun) location. The plants makes a lush focal point for planters and in garden beds and borders. Bring plants inside before frost. Plant safety: Costa Farms palm is not intended for human or animal consumption. Keep this plant out of reach of children and pets.
